Here safe and sound.

The good news: I made it. The bad news: I have to leave in 3.5 months! After a long day of flights, ten other students and I met up with the rest of the group outside the Costa Rica airport. I couldn't help but smile when all the signs had English as the secondary language for once. We were welcomed by an enthusiastic staff and the students whose flights had actually arrived on time. (Our final flight was delayed because they couldn't find the pilots!) We loaded up one bus with our luggage and the other with a bunch of tired, hungry, and excited students in another to head to a retreat center for the night. It's hard to describe the feelings I experienced as we sped from the west side of the city to the east, but they were all positive! It was quite the rush, especially with the warm Costa Rica breeze coming through the windows and a bus full of chatty, nervous students getting to know each other.

This was my room and roommate for the night. Mariann and I were asleep within minutes of getting settled in. It was about 11:30 (12:30 Iowa time) and we needed our rest for the following day of orientation and meeting our host families!

Summary: I arrived in Costa Rica and they didn't deport me at Immigration/Customs. We stayed at a lovely little retreat center and everyone was ready for a shower and non-airplane sleep by the time we got there. I have loved every minute so far!

Erin, I am so glad that you made it safe all the while being excited amidst airplane travels. I know you are going to be blessed this semester and I am very excited to be following you. Know that I am thinking and praying for you often. Love from Iowa!
